Glycolic, lactic, and mandelic acid all belong to the AHA category, but the ingredient name alone does not tell you how a product will feel. Concentration, pH, contact time, delivery format, supporting ingredients, and frequency all shape the finished experience. A glycolic toner and a glycolic cleanser should not be judged as the same purchase simply because they share one named acid.
Use the label to identify the acid, then use the product format and directions to make the decision. Glycolic acid appears across toners, pads, creams, and wash-off products. Lactic acid is often used alone or inside blends. Mandelic acid is commonly presented in targeted leave-on formulas. Blended products may combine more than one AHA or pair AHA with BHA or PHA, which changes the role of the product in the routine.
Avoid choosing by a single ranking such as strongest, gentlest, or best. Those labels ignore the formula around the acid and your current routine. A better comparison is: what step will this replace, how long will it remain on the skin, what other exfoliating products are already present, and can the frequency be adjusted without rebuilding the entire routine?
