For everyday use, check whether a palette includes a base shade, a shade for depth, and any shimmer you genuinely want. If you need only one color, a single shadow may make more sense than another palette. Swatches photographed on skin are more informative than a closed package, though lighting still changes how color appears. Pay attention to pan size and number of shades; a larger palette is only a better value when you will use its range. A palette with many similar light shades may still have limited practical range for your makeup habits. Look at each shade's function rather than counting pans as the only value measure.

Powder shades usually call for a brush or fingertip; cream and liquid shadows may set on a different timetable and require more deliberate blending. Glitter needs particular attention to the product's eye-area directions and removal. Do not assume every sparkle is approved for every part of the eye.
